Culminating at 12200 feet (3 726 m) above sea level, it is the second-highest volcano in Indonesia, after Kerinci. Mount Rinjani is located in the Gunung Rinjani National Park. The park covers 102,100 acres (41,330 hectares) and is the highest point where the tropical flora and fauna of Southeast Asia meets that of Australasia. Inside the mountain, you will be able to see a crescent-shaped lake named the Segara Anak, which is considered a spiritual place for locals. People come here every year for a ceremony in honor of the mountain spirit. The Wetu Telu people also consider the lake sacred and come to pray here on full moon nights. This sulfur lake is located 1970 feet (600 meters) below the crater rim. A new volcano, Mount Baru, is emerging from the waters of this lake following a series of eruptions in the 1990s, it is impressive to see. The three-day Rinjani route from the crater rim of Senaru to the lake and then to Sembalun Lawang is considered one of the best treks in Southeast Asia. More adventurous trekkers will want to go to the top of the volcano. The best option is to start from Sembalun Lawang, which takes four days and ends in Senaru. Perched at the top, we can see all the surrounding islands: Sumbawa, Flores, Bali, the Gili! And the view on the lake inside the crater is absolutely incredible. It would indeed be a shame to miss such a show. This ascent requires a good physical condition, not everyone can do it, for the most fragile, it is advisable to do it over several days, so that the routes will be shorter, and you can rest. The slope is steep and the ground slippery, so be careful during your journey. Moreover, once you have climbed to the top of Rinjani, you will have to go back down the same path, which is not easy.
